Alex Saab, former minister close to Maduro, detained in an FBI operation together with the government of Delcy Rodríguez

The Colombian-Venezuelan businessman, Alex Saab, known as Nicolás Maduro’s front man, was arrested this Wednesday in Venezuela, according to reports. Reuters.

Saab, who two weeks ago was serving as Minister of Industries and National Production of Venezuela, would have been captured by the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service of Venezuela for extradition to the United States.

The capture occurred in the early morning, around 2 AM, in a joint operation between the Venezuelan authorities and the FBI. The Bolivarian National Intelligence Service has it in its possession while its shipment to the United States is defined, as reported. Snail Radio.

On January 17, the president in charge of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, announced the merger of the Ministry of Industries and National Production with that of National Commerce in a “new instance” that Luis Antonio Villegas will lead, thereby replacing the businessman Alex Saab, a close collaborator of President Nicolás Maduro, from the cabinet.

He made the announcement on his Telegram account, where he expressed his gratitude to Saab for “his work in the service of the Homeland” and assured that he “will assume new responsibilities.”
