Submission steps for Writers:
#1. Write up a short bio of your education, current employment, and any other experience you want us to know about.
#2. Decide which persona you are the most passionate about writing for. In the future you may branch out to multiple ones, but please narrow it to one to start. There are articles in the archives entitled, “Meet the ___________,” and so on under each persona, which can help you see the heart behind each one.
#3. Write one article (400-900 words) that would fit under your favorite persona, and that we could potentially publish as your first article. Share about anything that you feel women need to hear or be encouraged by—this is your chance to give a first impression of your voice in the Darling movement.
NOTE: Avoid using too many “I’s” or personal stories. You can lay the foundation with a personal experience, opinion, etc., but then your article must move into a tone of advice, cultural commentary, or encouragement that uses inclusive language of the reader. If your article sounds too much like a personal blog post over a magazine article, we will ask you to re-write.
#4. Send the above to join@darlingmagazine.org
#5. After your article has been reviewed by our team, we will contact you to let you know if we would like to start the editing process for publishing, or if your piece is not a right fit for us. Note: It is not guaranteed your article will be published. Darling has high standards for content and quality of writing, so we must choose from our top submissions. However, do not let this intimidate you; give your best and try again if your first submission isn’t the right fit–we want to work with you to produce your greatest work!*
